Maybe you Shouldn't Do a Yoga Teacher Training...
Not enough time.
Not flexible enough.
Too old.
Not experienced enough.
Not spiritual enough.
Not ready.
Not interested in teaching.
These are some of the most common reasons people give for not doing a Yoga Teacher Training. And honestly… sometimes they are valid.
A Yoga Teacher Training is not a small commitment. It asks for time, attention, energy, reflection and presence. It will probably challenge you in unexpected ways. You may have moments where you feel inspired, uncomfortable, deeply connected, completely uncertain - sometimes all within the same weekend.
But over the years, we’ve also noticed something interesting: The people who benefit most from a training are often not the ones who arrive feeling the most qualified. They are often the people simply willing to stay curious.
The ones who think:
“I don’t know if I can do this…
but something about it keeps pulling at me.”
You do not need to be the most flexible person in the room. In fact, some of the most insightful students are those who have learned to work compassionately with limitation.
You do not need to be young. Many people arrive at yoga later in life, carrying lived experience, perspective and depth that cannot be taught from a textbook.
You do not need to want to become a yoga teacher. Some students join simply because they want to understand yoga more deeply, reconnect to themselves or explore something meaningful alongside everyday life.
And you certainly do not need to have everything figured out.
A Yoga Teacher Training is not a final exam in being “good at yoga.”
In many ways, it is simply a structured space to ask bigger questions:
How do I relate to myself?
What supports balance and clarity?
What patterns keep repeating?
What happens when I slow down enough to listen?
What does yoga actually mean beyond the poses?
Sometimes the reasons we think we are not ready are also the very reasons the experience becomes meaningful. And perhaps yoga begins exactly there: not in perfection or certainty, but in the willingness to remain present with what is unfolding.
