This Moment is the Perfect Moment
This moment is
the perfect moment.
We’re about three weeks back into our regular routines, and everything seemed to be flowing. We even completed a full (and very fun!) Kids Yoga Teacher Training weekend. And then, as life often does, it shifted…
Our 5-year-old came home sick from Kindergarten.
Suddenly every plan was tossed out the window. Work slowed down, the to-do list faded and life revolved around caring for our little one. At first, it was hard to let go of what we thought should happen. But then a truth from the Dharma (the teachings of the Buddha) came to mind:
“Suffering arises when we resist what is. Peace arises when we allow it.”
The Buddha never promised that life would go according to plan. Instead, the teaching reminds us that clinging - holding tightly to the picture in our heads - creates suffering. The same is true in yoga: it isn’t the tight hamstring, the shaky balance or the stillness itself that creates struggle, but our resistance to it.
Maybe the more important question is: What is being asked of me right now?
Sometimes the answer is effort. Sometimes it’s patience. And sometimes it’s simply to sit on the couch, play a quiet game and be present with a child who needs comfort. Like in life, yoga invites us to soften our grip and allow each moment to be just what it is - no more, no less. Not giving up, but opening up.
So this week, our invitation is simple: practice being with whatever life brings - the busy days, the quiet pauses, the unexpected turns. Each one has something to offer.
Because this moment is the perfect moment (from Thich Nhat Hanh)
Whatever it brings.
